Project Sulangan is a charity that is focused on providing and improving education for children in the most remote areas in the Philippines. They aim to rebuild and build schools, donate educational supplies, and fund education generally.
They believe that the opportunity for education gives children the power to make decisions about their own lives. By helping to provide and improve children’s education, they are encouraging a change that can affect generations and can potentially change the way in which Filipinos live.
As a small charity reliant on donations and volunteers to fund both their charitable projects and back-office operations at Project Sulangan every pound counts. Especially as any money they can save will then go towards funding their projects in the Philippines.
To help reduce the amount of money they were spending on IT and security, Cloudscaler proposed to migrate the hosting of their website to AWS and wrap around additional security services.
Using AWS Lightsail to host a WordPress website Cloudscaler migrated its current website content into this new environment within AWS. The website itself was deployed into a foundational landing zone built by Cloudscaler. This landing zone had built-in controls and security utilising various AWS security services such as AWS Security Hub and AWS Config whilst employing security best practices.
As a result of this Project Sulangan was able to reduce its hosting costs by 95% whilst taking advantage of free security services provided by Cloudscaler. This meant the organisation was able to direct its efforts and fundraising towards its core aim of improving education in the Sulangan region.
