The Ilkley Clean River Group is a not-for-profit community organisation dedicated to protecting the health of the River Wharfe, ensuring it’s safe for future generations and wildlife.
It campaigns to stop raw sewage from being pumped into the River Wharfe to keep it safe for wildlife as well as the local community. As a local community group that relies on donations and volunteers for support, every penny counts.
The challenge
The Group wanted to reduce the amount of money it was spending on IT. It also wanted to ensure its website was secure. As a group of volunteers, it has limited technical knowledge and resources so wasn’t sure what the best solution would be.
The solution
Cloudscaler reviewed how and where the Group’s website was hosted. It proposed that the Group migrate the site to AWS and wrap around additional security services.
Cloudscaler migrated the Group’s WordPress website into a new AWS Lightsail environment. The website was deployed using Cloudscaler’s Enterprise Cloud Platform (ECP) solution – a foundational landing zone with additional built-in controls and security. The solution utilises a number of AWS security services, such as AWS Security Hub and AWS Config, whilst also employing best security practices.
Benefits and results
The migration to AWS was seamless with minimal downtime and took a matter of minutes. It has also enabled the Ilkley Clean River Group to reduce its hosting costs by 95%. The free security services provided by Cloudscaler mean that the site is now better protected. The smooth migration, increased security and reduced costs mean the Group is now able to devote its time to campaigning, as opposed to IT maintenance.
